It was established in April 1998 after the Sam Nunn Information Security Forum, due to Georgia Tech's strengths in technology and policy, and a need for improved security research and education.[2]
GTISC's current director is Mustaque Ahamad.[3] Blaine Burnham, Richard DeMillo, and Ralph Merkle have previously served as the department's director.[4][5][6]
GTISC has about 80 staff and many undergraduates from Colleges and Schools across the Georgia Tech campus.[7][8] Researchers come from the Georgia Tech Research Institute as well as Georgia Tech's College of Computing, College of Liberal Arts, and School of Electrical Engineering in the College of Engineering.[7][8]
